Access the advanced search option by clicking the link next to the basic search box on the homepage
It's important to note that the advanced search covers all Alexander Street Databases. The Library subscribes to two Alexander Street databases: Academic Video Online and Theatre and Drama Premium.
The advanced search page has two columns, one for subject areas and one for specifying search criteria. If you're logged in to Theatre and Drama Premium, then in the first column, on the left, MUSIC & PERFORMING ARTS and under that THEATRE will be highlighted in blue to show that you are searching Theatre and Drama Premium.
In the image above, you can see some of the fields that can be searched, but there are more fields and more search criteria that you can use:
There are four sorting options
There are many different fields that you can search - you can see some in the image above, Some you enter text yourself and others you select from a list. You can see, for example next to Playwright, a link to Select Items. This opens a box:
Tick the box beside the names of any playwrights you want to search for, and click Add Terms when you're finished.
You can do the same for any field where you have the Select Terms option.
As with other library resources, the advanced search is a good way of narrowing the number of search results before you search. However, there are a lot of options, which can be confusing. If you're not familiar or comfortable with searching, then perhaps it's best to stick to the basic search. The search results page will have options for filtering the number of results that you see, and maybe they'll be easier to use.
