Hello and welcome. My name is Anne Hannan, and I am a tutor in community and adult education. In 2020 I took part in the SDG Advocate Training project because I felt that the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focus on the most pressing issues of our generation. Despite this knowledge, I found that I never had the time to learn more about the SDGs and the challenges they pose Ireland (and the world) in meeting our international obligations by 2030. The training programme provided a dedicated space to do this. My hope was to make a positive contribution in an informed way.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

As a result of the programme, I have created a slide deck of resources, for tutors, that I hope will allow you to introduce the SDGs into your teaching and learning in simple and meaningful ways.
The pack offers suggestions on how you might introduce the SDGs into your teaching and/or integrate certain elements into your module or learning outcomes. It also signposts you to many additional links and resources. However - and this is an important point, the images and short videos (usually between 1-3 mins) can simply be used as energisers, discussion or reflective exercises or basic reading, listening and comprehension pieces as a means of introducing the concepts to your learners.
I hope this resource will encourage you to introduce or broaden your understanding of the SDGs with your learners with the flexibility to dip in and out, in a way that suits your teaching style.
In return, I would love your input on how user friendly you find the resource and I would welcome any further suggestions in terms of content, and ease of implementation, in order to make this a useful and living, working, resource pack for tutors.
The resource is a work in progress, and I am almost at the end of my first iteration. SDG 17 will be updated next month, so watch this space. My plan is to review and update the slide-deck on a monthly basis working in sequence with Development Perspectives SDG monthly challenge.
