Alexander Street is a multimedia learning and research platform that provides access to for audio, text, image, and video collections. Academic Video Online (AVON) is product offered by Alexander Street and can be accessed through this platform.
Details on how to access AVON through the Alexander Street interface is available on the access page. The web page to get to Academic Video Online is a password-protected page you can find linked on the Access page of this section.
You can search the Academic Video Online Channel by clicking the search bar in the top right hand corner. Simply type in your search and hit enter.
After you get your results you can change their order by using the "Sort by" option. Results can be sorted in four ways:
Alexander Street uses an algorithm (a set of instructions for solving a problem or accomplishing a task) to determine what it thinks are the most relevant results to your search query, so for example if you search for 'healthy eating' (that is healthy and eating), the algorithm is likely to show articles that have the phrase "healthy eating" in the title, abstract or list of keywords, because it "thinks" that these will be most relevant to your search. It's up to you to decide that, however.
If you get too many results, you can further narrow down your search results by using the search filter, to a more manageable level.. After typing in your simply click the filter icon.
The Alexander Street interface is not include quite as in-depth advanced search option as the ProQuest interface. Search results can be filtered by:

You can use the sliders to input a date range to narrow your search by publication date
After finding a video you would like to watch, simply click it to start playing. There are a few features that may come in handy.
If the video has a transcript option available. It will appear at the top middle. Clicking this provides the full transcript for the video. The transcript can be searching using the search bar in the bottom right hand corner of the video.
This can be found near the bottom right hand corner. It allows you to create a citation record for the item to include in your reference list
The closed caption can be turned on in the bottom right hand corner. This includes the option for automatic translated captions. As they are machine translated, they may include errors and not be of the same standard as human translated captions. These captions are available in the following languages:
