This information session examined how COVID-19 has affected the Irish labour market over the last year including what sectors, occupations and regions have seen the largest fall in employment. This included an examination of those in receipt of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment and looked at, in terms of the occupations most impacted, who are the people employed in these occupations? While COVID-19 has caused significant havoc on our economy it is important to recognise other areas that are having an impact on skills needs in Ireland. These include Brexit, the acceleration of automation and the increased requirements for digital skills along with climate action requirements which will see an increased demand for green skills. There are many unknowns ahead as we start on our path to recovery, but it is important to have the knowledge that will help to inform our future decisions.
